Start with the function of the glass
Some glass is part of a sealed combustion system; other doors serve a different purpose on an open fireplace. They should not be treated as interchangeable. Keep a damaged appliance out of use until the correct replacement and installation requirements have been established.
A close visual match is not enough
Dimensions, attachment, seals and the specified material all matter. The correct part may come as an assembly rather than a loose pane. Ask how the recommended replacement relates to the manufacturer documentation before ordering something that only looks similar online.
Plan the finish after the fit
Once the system requirements are understood, discuss the visible finish and how it will work with the hearth. If the surrounding stone or trim is also changing, coordinate the sequence. Finishing the wall first can make later access to required components unnecessarily difficult. If the existing door or glass has already been removed by someone else, retain the available part information and explain what happened. Do not use the fireplace to see whether it works without that component. The replacement discussion should establish the correct assembly first.
