Ask whether the sample represents the full frame, only the door surround or a handle finish on top of a separate base. Manufacturers such as Stoll distinguish frame materials, finishes and hardware choices. A sample from another collection may not be available on the door that fits your fireplace. Write the exact finish name and option code next to the front model.
Use two viewing conditions you really live with
Place loose samples on a separate board next to a piece of the proposed hearth material, well away from a hot fireplace. Look at them in ordinary daylight and with your normal evening lights. Include the cabinet handle or nearby metal trim you want to relate to them. View from the sofa as well as close up. Reflection, edge contrast and the direction of a brushed grain can matter more than the small color difference visible in a catalog.
Make the order show which pieces change
A quoted finish can apply to selected trim strips while hinges, mesh or handles remain in another finish. Ask for a marked elevation and the manufacturer's care guidance for the exposed surfaces. If a color is unavailable, get the actual approved alternatives before a trade proposes repainting a factory component or modifying a required barrier.
