Identify masonry before discussing custom fabrication
A brick veneer or arched stone surface can surround a factory-built fireplace. Custom masonry door options may not be approved for that equipment. Provide the installer any appliance label or original installation record and a wide view of the interior and face from the room. The first decision is whether this opening is a suitable candidate for the type of door being proposed.
Give the maker the actual curve
A low segmental arch and a near half-circle can share the same maximum width and height. Stoll describes template-based choices for arched fireplaces. Ask who supplies or verifies the required template and which face of an irregular stone opening it represents. Confirm whether the frame overlaps the masonry or sits inside it and where irregular stones leave gaps.
Compare the arc of the moving door
A door selected to preserve the arch can still strike a raised hearth edge or adjacent furnishing. Ask for the proposed hinge or bifold motion on the drawing and the final operating instructions for doors and screen. Approve the finish sample after the attachment, available clearance and usable opening are known. Preserve the drawing with the order so a change in trim does not silently alter the approved shape.
