Choose the appliance path first

Mark the fireplace as staying, being evaluated for repair, or being considered for replacement. A stone template based on the existing opening can be wrong if the replacement unit has different trim or ventilation requirements. Take the manufacturer's full drawing to the design meeting, not just the advertised viewing width.

A retain-or-replace decision with real consequences

If the current fireplace is appropriate to retain but needs service access, the plan might change only the stone around a removable panel. If the unit needs replacement, the vent path, connections and clearance drawing can change along with the opening. Ask for those two scopes separately while the appliance decision is open. Ordering an oversized slab to allow for “either option” does not solve a conflict behind the face.

Review the wall in section

A front elevation shows symmetry. A side view shows the thickness of new panels, projecting shelves and the path needed to lift off a decorative front. Ask the fabricator to show the support for the finish separately from any appliance surfaces. The relevant clearances belong to the chosen model.

Build a release checklist for the fabricator

A shop drawing can show the right opening on a flat wall but omit the return that wraps into the recess. If the specified front needs to lift outward and upward, that return can prevent service even though the finished face looks symmetrical. Ask the appliance provider to mark the limits of the finish and the direction of front removal. Ask the fabricator to mark actual slab thickness, backing and the support for any projecting shelf. Sign off on the same revision.

What belongs in the project folder

Deerfield Beach separates online permit status, inspection scheduling, building public records and condominium permit guidance on its Building Services page. For a condominium project, ask the building contact about its requirements as well as checking the city process for the actual work. Put both answers alongside the approved appliance detail and the dated fabrication drawing.

Ask which dimensions are still provisional

Mark any dimension that depends on seeing the old framing or removing a front. A drawing can be reviewed for layout before it is released for cutting. Ask who takes the final measurements after those conditions are known and where the approved revision will be kept.
