Ask the cabinetmaker to draw the service motion

A narrow strip beside a fireplace may look clear in an elevation but block a front that has to lift before it comes forward. On the shop drawing, have the installer mark the direction of removal, including space occupied by an open cabinet door or a projecting face frame. Use the actual front and installation instructions. Recessing the cabinet may solve a different problem from reducing the height of a side panel.

Give the drawings a common reference surface

One drawing may measure from the face of framing, another from finished stone. Mark where those two surfaces will be after tile, adhesive and backing are installed. Ask which nearby materials and projections the model's instructions address and have the responsible trade identify the governing diagram. A noncombustible outer finish does not classify every hidden component of a cabinet.

Set a sign-off before fabrication

Request a dated detail showing the retained front, removable trim, required openings and who will check those items before installation. If a wall switch is moved or the fireplace changes, revise that detail instead of relying on the original approval. The Town of Gulf Stream supplies permit contacts for the final scope. Store the approved cabinet drawing with the fireplace manual for future service.
